I often wondered what would happen if I took the plunge and canceled my last credit card. Id say if you need your score anytime soon (6-12 months) then dont make any changes that would adversely affect your score. For example, if your planning to by a house and want the best score possible to negotiate the lowest rates possible, then I wouldnt do any changes that would risk the score going down.
